This page describeslarge collections of books in plain
text [.txt] format,
with book titles as file names (not codes or abbreviations), organized
in folders by author and topic, editable and
printable, for
reading on PCs and Macs. These Virtual Library Packages are based on
our book collection
CDs and DVDs. Plain text is important for the blind who use
special equipment and software to convert text to voice or to Braille.
These are
organized collections of books in .txt
format, for sale as
downloads, with a linked index page, in a
single zipped file. Many of these are downloadable versions
of book collections that we sell on CD and DVD at http://samizdat.stores.yahoo.net/
"A
library
for
the
price
of
a
book."
These
books are meant to be
read
on
Windows
PCs,
Macs, and devices for the blind that convert plain text to voice or
Braille. You
can
also
upload
individual
book
files
to
most
e-readers
(Kindle,
Kobo,
and
Sony,
but
not
Nook),
but
that
is
a
slow
and
awkward
process.
For
PC
and
Mac,
when
you
unzip,
all
the
sub-folders
and
files
are
located
in
the
same
folder
and
you
can
use
the
index
document
to
click
and
open
the
individual
books,
or
you
can
browse
through
the
files
and
open
the
books
directly
using
any
word
processor
or
web
browser.
Each
book
is
a
separate
file
that
you
can
edit,
print,
highlight,
or
take
excerpts
from;
and
each
sub-folder
has
the
works
of
a
particular
author
or
books
on
a
common
topic.
In
other
words,
you
can
creatively
control
these
files
on
your
PC
or
Mac.
