EMPLOYMENT
Nominum, Inc.
Senior Software Engineer, 2001-2002
Ported the DNS Server BIND 9.2 written in conformance to standard C
language to Win32 platforms and ensure that it ran properly as a system
service. BIND is responsible for 99% of all Internet address lookups on
the Internet. Interacted with other developers to keep the port up to the
same high standards as the original Unix code and ensured that it
integrated properly and was buildable on Win32. Included support for DNSSEC
(the security protocol) and OpenSSL. Added support for installation as
a secure and restricted system service to minimize and potential attacks
via the BIND service. Responded to user questions and porting issues. Provided
installer and setup instructions for new users and provided support for
people with problems and questions. Fixed BIND 8 bugs on win32 platforms
and brought it up to par with Unix platforms.
Fidelity Investments
Consultant Software Engineer, 1998 – 2001
FESCO DB Systems, 1998 – 2001
Investigated, diagnosed and tested Web-based NetBenefit and voice response
systems performance problems with the IIS/Sybase Web server, including
COM objects, and made tuning recommendations to enhance and maintain performance
of the Web and Database servers. Provided and recommended guidelines
for ongoing development and enhancements to the systems. Acted as
troubleshooter for difficult-to-resolve problems and mentored the junior
staff. Reviewed the systems for security problems and came up with a least
3 security holes which were quickly fixed along the suggested guidelines.
Provided support and integration between C++ code and Java/Blaze software
running on another server using XML as a communication language between
the servers. In addition these servers were utilizing a Sybase database
running on a Solaris box. Provided development and integration implementation
support in Visual Basic, COM, Visual C++, XML, Java, WebLogic, and Blaze.

set of tools and applications that work together and provide billing and
helpdesk support. Integration with Microsoft MCIS, MS Site Server,
Netscape SuiteSpot, Netscape Directory Services, DNS, Mail Servers, News
Servers, MS LDAP Services, MCIS Membership and Provisioning.
Internet Business Group – Internet Innovators Program 1995-1997
Reviewed and tested a large number of IP-based applications that run
on Windows NT
platforms. Made recommendations on which applications were worthwhile
to put on the Internet
Roadmap CD for Windows NT systems. Developed and organized the
CD and the front-end installation scripts. This CD has been through
4 releases.
Internet Business Group November 1994-December 1995
Represented Digital and worked with W3 Consortium on the establishment
of HTML and HTTP standards secure communication models and enhancement
requirements. Represented Digital to the W3 Consortium working group on
web security starting even before W3 Consortium was fully established as
a going concern. Designed, developed and implemented the Software
Distribution Server, today still a unique method of securely distributing
software kits over the Web.
Internet Business Group Security June 1994-December 1994
Conducted in-depth review of the status of the code and services for
Digital’s Unix firewalls. Recommended and started to bring into IBG
Organization the code and the task of hiring full-time programmers to enhance
and develop the code. Recommended and started the engineering tasks
needed for development of the tunneling software.
Internet Business Group Internal Development June 1993-December 1994
Maintained & Enhanced NCSA Mosaic for X-Windows for Unix &
VMS platforms as well as Lynx for character-cell terminals. Pursue and
pushed the Digital community into the unique capabilities of the Internet
in general and the World-Wide Web in particular, mostly through the DEC
notes conferencing capabilities and internal news groups.
SOFTbase Information Systems 1992-May 1994
Architected and designed the Client/Server Communications for the followon
to SOFTbase. Responsible for systems integration, coordination, and
review of human interface designs (GUI's), interface design, project management
and review. Responsible for coordination of systems and systems integration
between PC's, VAX's and Ultrix systems, security, reliability, etc.
VSS CAD 1991-1992
Architected and designed software for the ACE CAD Framework to operate
in a Client/Server Environment, while maintaining the original external
interfaces. Clients were required to be able to access Databases
from VMS, Ultrix, DOS and any other Operating System that would be used
for hardware design work. Work also included reengineering the database
access routines to work safely in a Multi-Server Environment.
Software Engineering Supervisor, 1984-1989
HPS CAD User Interface Group 1990-1991
Managed the CUI group, whose charter was to develop a common look and
feel for all the CAD Tools in a DECWindows environment. Work included reviewing
all existing interfaces and making recommendations to improve them, simplify
them and make them easier to use, ensuring a consistent common user interface
among all tools, provide callable routines to simplify the effort to provide
these interfaces. Wrote a paper on critiquing existing user interfaces
along with a methodology for evaluating them
VAX 8600 Diagnostics Group 1984-1989
Supervised a group testing and releasing diagnostic software, diagnostic
development, console enhancements and additional console diagnostics for
the VAX 8600 and VAX 8650. Work included planning tests to be run,
designing which to do and which to leave out, planned new diagnostics for
additional coverage, enhancements to console code. Long-term planning,
project planning and management, performance reviews, presentations of
schedules and work being done to upper-level management were a regular
part of the work. Held regular reviews of work and schedules and helped
acquire resources where they were missing or needed. Interviewed
and hired candidates for available positions in the organization.

- Intergraph running on a VAX and a PDP-11/70, and a company built CAD
system (Cyars) running on a Prime 300. Work included development
of software for automating the collection, digitization and storing of
digitized maps for different companies and municipalities. Worked
to integrate mapping with databases of the objects being mapped.
Helped select the database for the company and reviewed the different capabilities
