Corisu Li: Well, considering you tied up the entire cast... *gestures

Kunoichi: Mmmm...Ok...Inu-chan free! *snaps fingers*
Inuyasha: You die later.
Kunoichi: Promise?!?!
Inuyasha: Eh?
Corisu Li: Ignore her, Yasha-kun.
Kunoichi: It's Inu-chan!
Corisu Li: Yasha-kun!
Kunoichi: Inu-chan!
Corisu Li: Yasha-kun!
Inuyasha: How about neither?
Kunoichi: *confused face* You wanna be called Neither?
Corisu Li and Inuyasha: *anime fall*
Inuyasha: You IDIOT!
Kunoichi: Why the compliments lately, Neither?
Inuyasha: ~_~ I eagerly await your funeral. *is starting to sound like
his brother*
Kunoichi: ^________________^ It's a date!
Corisu Li: Let's just stop the pointlessness now:
After making sure that Miroku was situated in a comfortable position, she turned to the old man, who looked even older as he stood in the doorway with a helpless look on his face. Recognizing formalities, she stepped forward, gave a bow, and said, "Atashi wa Sango desu. That is Miroku, Shippou, and Kirara."
The old man returned the bow. "Watashi wa Akimoto Giichi desu." He waved a hand at the men behind him. "Leave us. I wish to talk with her." The men obeyed at once, excusing themselves politely and withdrawing from the threshold.
Mr. Akimoto rubbed his face and took a seat in a chair near the fireplace. Sango took the seat across from him. "Are your friends really powerful enough to bring back my granddaughter?" he asked finally.
"Akimoto-san, I would trust them with my life. She'll be safe."
Mr. Akimoto lifted his head. "It's just...I would be devastated if we lost her. Recently, she took very ill with poison. Everyone thought that she would die, but on the brink of death, she seemed to turn back and made a full recovery. It was a miracle!"
"On the brink of death, you say?" Sango thought hard. There was something that kept nagging at her mind.
"Hai. Also, lately, she has seemed more aware of things. The smallest item seems to fascinate her, as if she has never before been able to see. Or maybe as if she hasn't been able to see for a long time. Well, I don't know how to explain it, but she has changed."
The nagging feeling in Sango's brain intensified. Trying to ignore the feeling that she was overlooking something, she turned back to Mr. Akimoto. "Don't worry, Akimoto-san. I'm sure that they will take care of everything."
But Sango was slightly wrong. They wouldn't *have* to take care of it all...
--------------------------------
Kagome was astonished, to say the least. She hadn't even been able to read it in the girl's aura, so how could she be capable of such a thing?
The deformed bird youkai was standing in the tall grass a few feet away from the cave. Just inside the cave's entrance sat Kunoichi, her eyes shut. Everyone could smell singed flesh and feathers on the air. Upon inspection, it could be seen that a huge burn mark covered half of the youkai's chest and its right wing. Kunoichi's aura rippled with pink light.
Ninsei was the first to speak. "Is she... a miko?"
Kagome looked closely at the girl. "Maybe. It looks like that youkai was hit with purifying energy."
Inuyasha scoffed. "Who cares about that right now! Let's just kill this damn thing and get it over with!" And with those words, he darted from the trees and launched himself at the youkai. Not bothering with Tetsusaiga, he raked his claws at it, yelling, "Iron Reaver Soul Stealer!"
The obviously low-level youkai gave a shrill cry before it was split into dozens of pieces. Inuyasha calmly shook the blood from his hand, a slightly bored look on his face. He had obviously hoped that the youkai would prove more of a challenge.
Meanwhile, Kagome ran to Kunoichi. Just before Kagome reached her, however, a shock raced through her body and she found herself hurled backwards several feet.
"Kagome!" Inuyasha shouted, running to her.
"I'm fine," she muttered, dusting off her clothes, looking very pissed.
Ninsei approached and tapped gently on the exact place where Kagome had hit what seemed to be a wall of electricity. Small jolts flew through his fingers. "Shield spell."
"No shit!" Inuyasha snapped.
"She *must* be a miko!" Kagome decided.
"Well, if she is, why didn't you notice it before now?" Inuyasha asked.
Ninsei answered for her. "I don't think even she knew. The danger that she was in must have awakened her power."
'Just like Mistress Centipede did for me,' Kagome remembered. "So, how do we get this shield down?" she asked aloud.
Ninsei sighed. "We can't. She has to either lower it herself or pass out. There's nothing we can do."
Inuyasha glowered. "You know, I'm really sick of hearing you say that."
Ninsei smiled sadly. "Yes, I know."
Before the group was faced with the problem of how to reach the girl, however, she opened her eyes and stared at the group. "Who are you?" Then, without being given an answer, she slumped forward. The whitish shield became visible for a split second before dissipating.
Kagome breathed a sigh of relief. "At least we can get her back to the village now." The guys nodded, and Ninsei stepped forward and gathered the girl in his arms.
Inuyasha just stood there, and he appeared to be thinking hard about something. (a/n: AUGH! The Apocalypse!) "Why would such a low-level beast steal girls from a village?"
"Food?" Kagome suggested. "I don't think it's that important, Inuyasha. What is important is getting Kunoichi to safety."
"It *is* important. Low-levels usually don't eat humans because larger youkai always steal them first. That thing looked like it was on a mission or something."
"You mean you think that it was working for a leader?" Ninsei asked, showing interest.
Inuyasha thought for a second, then said, "Yeah. I think so. But if there's a leader..."
"Then this couldn't have been the only one..." Kagome said, biting her lip.
Inuyasha nodded. "I think they're attacking a lot of villages for their girls, and taking them all to this leader."
"We have to get to the bottom of this! This is just awful!" Kagome exclaimed.
"But what about your houshi friend?" Ninsei pointed out.
Kagome faltered, then said, "Wait! Kikyou said that the people of Senpai would give us directions to a black forest, where a youkai is rumoured to live! What if that youkai is the leader of these snake-things?"
"Damn. More good deeds? I'm not a saint, Kagome!" Inuyasha scoffed, folding his arms and turning to walk away.
"He'll help," Kagome said confidently.
"WHAT?" Inuyasha was instantly back at her side. "What makes you think that?!?"
Kagome smiled sheepishly. "I kinda probed your mind..."
Inuyasha growled. "What have I said about DOING that? It's annoying! How would you like it if I spent every waking hour in YOUR brain??!"
Kagome put her hands on her hips. "Well, if you would tell the TRUTH once in a while, I wouldn't HAVE to!
"But that doesn't give you the right to just DO that!"
"So stop LYI-"
"Um, Lord Inuyasha? Lady Kagome?" Ninsei interrupted.
Both hanyous turned to him and barked, "WHAT?!?!"
Ninsei pointed at the sky. "Company."
Dozens of the deformed bird youkai were fluttering over the treetops, squawking loudly. The cry of the dying youkai seemed to have attracted a group of his buddies. One or a few of the weaklings were no problem at all, but the more there were, the bigger of a problem they were.
And they was going to be a big problem.
Kagome drew the Sora-Ki and stepped into a battle stance. "Ninsei-san, please take Kunoichi back to Senpai. I don't want her to get hurt."
Ninsei nodded. "I wouldn't be much help against flying youkai anyway, since they don't have to touch the ground." With this, he turned and ran through the woods at high speed, back towards the girl's village.
Inuyasha pulled out Tetsusaiga. "Let's do it," he snarled. Kagome smiled in encouragement and the pair leapt into the trees, using the branches to propel them straight upwards into the cloud of youkai.
---------------------------------
Kunoichi's head hurt. That was the first sensation that registered, anyway. She slowly came to realize that she was moving... and very fast. Forcing her eyes to open, she was surprised, to say the least.
A man was holding her in his arms while running. He had spiky black hair and wore three gold earrings. He was also quite handsome... Confused, she tried out her voice. "Wh...who..."
Ninsei looked down at her. "Ah, so you're awake. You were kidnapped, but don't worry, you're safe now." Throughout this speech, his speed never slowed.
Frowning, she tried again. "Wh...who are you?"
"You may call me Ninsei. Myself and my friends rescued you from that abducting youkai. I am returning you to your village."
As he spoke, said village came into sight. Racing up to the door, he peered through the bars of the gate. "Hello? Could someone let us in?"
A young man walked by the gate and peered at them. "Who are y-" He paused as he spotted Kunoichi in Ninsei's arms. "Kunoichi-san! You are safe!"
Kunoichi began to squirm and Ninsei placed her on her feet, standing close in case she were to collapse. "Hiroji-kun, please let us in. I must find my Jii-sama."
Hiroji quickly opened the gate wide and beckoned the pair inside. "Your grandfather is at the Uchida Inn. He went there with two youkai. Is he beginning to take strange acquaintances?"
Kunoichi sighed. Hiroji always looked for any reason to talk to her. She knew that he liked her, but she just wasn't interested. She didn't want to hurt the poor boy's feelings, however, so she replied, "Hiroji-kun, I honestly don't know. I need to speak with him, please excuse us." She grabbed the front of Ninsei's haori and dragged him in the direction of the inn.
(a/n: Do you recognize this scenario? I'll give you a second.....no? ok, fine. Kunoichi+Hiroji = Kagome+Houjou. HAHA, I couldn't resist!)
It was just a few minutes before they burst through the door of the Uchida. Kunoichi then turned to Ninsei. "I'm sorry. I never got to properly thank you. That baka out there already told you my name, but I uphold formality." Trying to straighten her hopelessly wrinkled kimono, she gave a shallow bow and said, "Atashi wa Akimoto Kunoichi desu."
Ninsei gave a polite nod, but before he could say anything, an old man flew from one of the rooms and gathered Kunoichi into his arms, sobbing with relief.
"Kunoichi! I thought I had lost you for sure! The taijiya told me that her friends were strong, but I didn't believe her! But now you're here!"
"Jii-sama, calm down. I'm fine!" Kunoichi looked exasperated, and tried to pull away from the ecstatic man.
Ninsei edged toward Sango, who was standing in the doorway and pulled her away from the others. "Sango-sama, something interesting has happened." He explained what had happened when they found Kunoichi, and what they suspected that she was. Then everything clicked. (a/n: If you didn't beat Sango to it, shame on you!!)
"This girl...I think she's Ayako reincarnate!" Sango revealed.
Ninsei blinked. "Why are you so sure?"
Sango told him what Mr. Akimoto had told her about the girl being very ill and then suddenly recovering, and how she seemed to be a different person lately.
Ninsei looked at the girl. "Should we tell her? She remembers nothing of the battle. We can just let her live on normally."
Shaking her head, Sango said, "No. If she truly has miko blood, then it will surface sooner or later. Better we tell her and let her learn to control it, rather than have her lose control at an inopportune time and harm innocent people."
The youkai thought for a moment, then nodded. "But we should at least wait for Lady Kagome. Since she is a miko, she would be able to help her cope."
"Okay." Sango agreed. The pair went back to where Mr. Akimoto was still holding fast to his granddaughter, each formulating a convincing story to stall the others to wait for Kagome's arrival.
--------------------------------
'Behind you!' Kagome cried, and Inuyasha whirled around, impaling a youkai on his sword.
'There's too damn many!' Inuyasha ranted. The ground was covered with dead bodies, but there seemed to be twice as many as before. 'Kagome, get out of the way!' He dropped to the ground and held Tetsusaiga ready.
Kagome instantly saw what he was about to do and moved so that she was standing beside him.
Inuyasha began to focus. He could sense that the youkai were moving closer; he didn't have much time. Then, he saw it: the place where the youkai's energy met the wind...
"KAZE NO KITSU!" he cried, slicing at the rift in the powers as hard as he could.
Kagome shielded her eyes against the blinding light that emanated from the attack. Loud squawks were heard right before the youkai were destroyed, no trace of them remaining.
Inuyasha let out a laugh of triumph, but he faltered when he saw a figure standing in the clearing dust. 'What the-" He broke off when he heard the figure laugh.
"Kukukukukuku...."
Kagome stepped up to stand beside Inuyasha. "Naraku!" she hissed, hatred flaring her aura.
"Naraku!" Inuyasha called. "Are you the bastard behind the abductions of these girls?"
"Kukuku... Idiot. Haven't you figured it out yet?"
"What the hell are you talking about, Naraku?" Inuyasha spat, lifting Tetsusaiga.
"The girls are being killed...to provide souls for the undead one," Naraku said matter-of-factly, as if they should have figured it out long ago.
Kagome gaped. 'But that would mean that...Kikyou was lying? But she couldn't have been!' To Naraku, she said, "So you mean Kikyou is working for YOU?"
Naraku laughed a bit before answering. "Hai. Did you really believe that she has sufficient emotions to care for a little girl enough to beg for her life back? Preposterous. She still wishes for revenge upon you, Inuyasha, and she's led you directly into my trap..."
With this, huge tentacles sprang from the ground and raced toward the pair. Kagome sent a wave of purifying energy at them from the Sora-Ki and they withered. Before Kagome could move again, however, more grew and raced toward them. Inuyasha and Kagome both tried to step back at the same time, only to find that neither could budge an inch. They could do nothing but watch as the sharp-tipped tentacles moved in for the kill.

Corisu Li: *sigh* That chapter sucked. I hate it. And if you can't already tell what's going on, die a horrible death.
Kunoichi: Uh, I can't tell.
Corisu Li: I should just go ahead and tell you, just to ruin the story...but I'm a little nicer than that. *I'm* not even sure I know where this is going....wait, yes I do. Kinda. Never mind. And then I'm trying to write my silly fic, The Twisted Mind of My AlterEgo...
Kunoichi: STARRING ME!
Corisu Li: Yes, I guess they know who you are, now.
Kunoichi: READ MY FIC! REVIEW MY FIC! GIVE ME IDEEEEEEEEEEEAS!!!!!!!!
Corisu Li: Humor her. If it sucks, oh, well. ~__~ I'm sleepy. It's about 2:10 a.m. I'll post this in the morning. Well, later in the morning. Too tired now. Sorry if this chapter was horrible or unclear. I'll try harder next time. Maybe. Ja ne!
